Taking off from Andrews Air Force Base.

It is a lot more comfortable to take off from AAFB, which is the homebase for Air Force 1. The presidential air transport fleet consists of two specially configured Boeing 747-200B's (tail numbers 28000 and 29000) with the Air Force designation VC-25. When the president is aboard either aircraft, or any Air Force aircraft, the radio call sign is "Air Force One." The 316th Wing (the base's host wing) is responsible for maintaining emergency reaction rotary-wing airlift and other National Capital Region contingency response capabilities critical to national security and for organizing, training, equipping and deploying combat-ready forces for Air and Space Expeditionary Forces. The wing also provides installation security, services and airfield management to support the President, Vice President, other U.S. senior leaders and more than 50 tenant organizations and federal agencies.
