Most of the cherry trees circling the Tidal Basin were already in peak bloom this weekend. The 3.700 trees (most of them are descendants of those presented to the USA by Japan in 1912 - to mark 60 years of friendly relations) are bursting with pink and white blossoms which is really enchanting. More than 1 Mio (!!!) people are expected to attend this 2 week festival, which is a symbol of spring, as well as the fleeting nature of life. A dazzling appearance it was to us ...
