We did a reconnaissance tour of the national Gallery of Art, West building. The National Gallery's permanent collection includes works from the 13th to the 20th centuries. A comprehensive survey of Italian paintings and sculpture includes The Adoration of the Magi, by Fra Angelico and Filippo Lippi, and Ginevra de'Benci, the only painting by Leonardo da Vinci on display in the Western Hemisphere.
Flemish and Dutch works, displayed in paneled rooms, include Daniel in the Lions' Den, by Peter Paul Rubens, and a self-portrait by Rembrandt. In the Chester Dale Collection are works by impressionists such as Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Auguste Renoir, and Mary Cassatt. Salvador Dalí's Last Supper is also in this building.
A more detailed visit will occur real soon.
